Un mundo cada vez más globalizado, más consciente de las desigualdades que aún azotan al planeta, a la vez levanta cada vez más alto sus fronteras. Hay mucho por conseguir y el Festival te invita a cruzar todos los límites en esta edición.
Los activistas ugandeses protagonistas del documental “The Kuchus of Uganda” (estreno mundial en el LesGaiCineMad) han visto peligrar sus vidas por la participación en una película que es impensable que, por el momento, llegue a estrenarse en el país donde se rodó. Su lucha puede hoy conocerse fuera de sus fronteras pero no dentro de ellas.
Roma, que tiene dentro de sus fronteras al Vaticano, está soñando de la mano de Arcigay con la colaboración de la Fundación Triángulo, la posibilidad de llevar a cabo el Primer Festival de Cine LGBT en la capital italiana en 2010.
En Sarajevo, organizaron su Festival de Cine Gay y Lésbico por primera vez el año pasado. Organizaciones que se hacen gala de tolerancia y respeto a la diversidad dentro de las fronteras bosnias incitaron a la agresión física contra quienes llevaban adelante el Festival. En estreno en España puedes verlo en “A Story About Sarajevo Queer Festival 2008”.
Este año largometrajes como “Ander”, “Ghosted”, “Piao Lang Qing Chun” o “Soundless Wind Chime” hablan de las fronteras que cruza el amor: las diferencias culturales, la distancia, las limitaciones, e incluso… la muerte.
Mientras cerrábamos este catálogo, una reconocida artista y activista argentina que venía de visita al LesGaiCineMad quedaba detenida en la frontera española. En las casi 24 horas que tuvo que pasar en el aeropuerto de Barajas, en Madrid, conoció la realidad de muchos turistas que son considerados “a priori” inmigrantes ilegales y a quienes se les deniega la entrada en la Unión Europea. Entre ellos hay otros tantos que, arriesgándolo todo, cruzan la frontera intentando huir de la difícil situación que viven en sus países de origen.
Con el ánimo de que el cine que habla de la diversidad afectiva en castellano supere todas las fronteras, esta edición inauguramos un proyecto muy ambicioso: el primer Mercado de Cine LGBT que se realiza en el mundo. Un espacio de negocio, entrenamiento y encuentro para que las producciones de esta temática sigan creciendo y para poder integrar a los cineastas que nos acompañan desde hace 14 años en un proyecto común para que nuestro cine siga evolucionando y exhibiéndose por todo el mundo, para que nuestras historias, las hechas en casa, lleguen a todo el planeta.
Este es un buen año para preguntarse… ¿Cuáles son las limitaciones que nos ponemos, que nos ponen a diario? ¿Cuáles son nuestras fronteras?

In an everyday more globalized world, where everyone is more aware of the inequalities that still lash the world, yet its frontiers a raised higher. There’s a lot to accomplish and this edition’s Festival invites you to cross all limits.
The Ugandan activists who star the documentary “The Kuchus of Uganda” (world premiere at LesGaiCineMad) have seen their lives in jeopardy for being part of a film that it will unlikely be released, so far, in the country where it was shot. Their fight can be known outside their frontiers but not inside them.
Rome, that has inside its boundaries the Vatican, is dreaming, along with Arcigay and the collaboration of Fundación Triángulo, for the possibility of making the First LGBT Film Festival in the Italian capital in 2010.
Last year in Sarajevo it was held the first Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Organizations that proudly claim to be tolerant and to respect diversity inside the Bosnian frontiers incited the physical aggression against the people responsible for the Festival. As a premiere in Spain you can witness it in “A Story About Sarajevo Queer Festival 2008”.
This year films such as “Ander”, “Ghosted”, “Piao Lang Qing Chun” or “Soundless Wind Chime” talk about frontiers that are crossed by means of love: cultural differences, distance, limitations or even… death.
While we were finishing this catalogue, a well known artist and Argentinean activist that came to visit LesGaiCineMad was retained at the Spanish frontier. During the nearly 24 hours that she had to spend in Barajas airport, in Madrid, she met the reality of several tourists that are considered “a priori” illegal immigrants who are denied their entrance into the European Union. Among them there are several that, risking everything, cross the frontier trying to run away from the difficult situation that they live in their native country.
With the aim that films about affective diversity will cross all frontiers, during this edition we started a very ambitious project: the first LGBT Film Market in the world. A space for business, entertainment and gathering in order that productions about this thematic keep growing; and also to integrate the filmmakers that keep joining us since 14 years ago into a common project, so our film industry keeps evolving and exhibiting worldwide. In order that our home made stories, can reach the whole planet.
This is a good year to wonder… What are the limitations that we set for, that they put us daily? Which are our frontiers?
